Summary of events concerning water system 8 /21/2007 to 8 /31/2007

8/21/2007 Early in the morning it was discovered that the pum at Jungfrau station was tripping out even thogh water was being requested. The tanks at Reinach were empty. The thee pase shifter at Jungfrau was rebalace which was the cause of the pump tripping due to excessive demand. A large water leak was suspected and susequently found on Dissbach Dr. The lines were isolated and the leak fixed by early evening. The leak apparently was caused by rocks shifting and damaging the 2" pipe. System returned to normal.

8/25/2007 A severe thunder storm struck parts of the village. On Sunday morning damge was noted to the door and control system at the Reinach station. The tanks were empty. The control system was repaired. A search for a leak revealed that several large trees were struck by lightening in the woods between Reinach and Aspen Dr. The lines were excavated and repaired. Both the 4" feed and a 2" discharge were damaged. It appears that the lightening followed the roots of the trees into the ground. System returned to normal operation.

8/28/2007 Wather was noticed flowing onto Aspen Dr. System tanks were about 1/2 full. A leak was found ithe woods near the previous lightening strike area, about 50' upstream. It was next to a tree with definate indication of a lightening strike. This break is suspected to be the result of the Saturday evening strike but did not leak until Monday evening. Only the 2" discharge pipe was damaged. A section of pipe was replaced. The System was put back into normal operation Subsequntly it was discovered that dirt from the two breaks had blocked the lines and the PRV at Jungfrau. The lines were cleaned and flushed and the PRV replaced. System returned to normal operation Wednesday evening..

8/30/2007 Another ightening strom occurred. On the morning check the power was out at Reinach. Tanks were abut 1/2 full. It was the PSNH feed that was out. PSNH determined that the pole transformer was damaged by lightening. It was replaced. Suystem returned to normal operation and has been working fine to date.

Pictures show damage to Reinach station door, one of the many trees damaged and the major break found on Sunday.
